What Is an AI Baby Portrait?
An AI baby portrait is a photorealistic image of your unborn baby, generated by artificial intelligence from the 3D depth data embedded in your ultrasound scan. Unlike a standard photograph, this isn't a generic "cute baby" picture — the AI reads your baby's actual facial geometry and reconstructs it in full photographic detail.
How Does the Technology Work?
Modern 3D and 4D ultrasound machines use sonar to build a three-dimensional depth map of your baby's face. The amber/golden image you see during a 3D scan is a real-time render of that depth data.
FirstGlimpse AI processes this in three main steps:
1. Depth Map Extraction
The AI reads the depth contours in your 3D scan image — identifying nose projection, cheek width, brow ridge, lip shape, and chin profile.
2. Facial Geometry Mapping
Using a trained neural network, the AI maps these depth readings onto a 3D facial mesh. This is why 3D scans work and 2D scans don't — the flat grayscale of a 2D scan contains no usable depth data.
3. Photorealistic Rendering
The mapped geometry is then rendered with:
Why 3D Scans Only?
A 2D ultrasound looks like a flat silhouette. There's no face structure for the AI to read. A 3D scan, however, is essentially a 3D photograph of your baby — the AI can reconstruct it the same way a sculptor works from a clay mould.
